CONFISCATED GORILLAS

Working with Confiscated Gorillas

Due to increased patrols and protection of gorillas in Rwanda and now in eastern Congo (DRC), as well as increased investigative work by local authorities, more and more poachers are being apprehended and prosecuted for killing and /or taking gorillas from the wild. This sometimes results in the discovery of infant gorillas in their possession, which are then confiscated and in need of immediate care, as well as preparation for their future.

As a result of this situation, DFGFI has created a facility to house these young confiscated gorillas, provide for their care, and make plans for their future. This is done in conjunction with local park authorities and with the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project. Currently we are providing care for a group of young gorillas at our facility in Rwanda, and at other facilities when needed, such as in Congo (Goma). Read press release.
